• During tooth preparation (such as full crown restoration), the gum may cover part of the tooth edge, and the gingival line can mechanically compress the gum, causing it to retreat temporarily and create a clear shoulder view. Avoid poor positioning or overhanging of the edges of the prosthesis due to gingival occlusion.

   

  The gingival line absorbs the blood, saliva and exudate in the gingival groove, keeping the operative area dry and improving the accuracy of the impression (especially the silicone rubber impression).

   

  Some gingival drainage lines contain hemostatic or astringent agents (such as aluminum chloride, epinephrine) to reduce gum bleeding and edema.

   

  Prevent direct gum damage by needle or instrument during tooth preparation or molding.

   

  Some gingival drainage lines contain antibacterial ingredients (such as sodium fluoride) to reduce the risk of postoperative infection.
